4 Ways to Find Laughs in This Economy
With layoffs all around, winter still biting down and bad economic news coming fast, how can workers cope? Well, laughter can be the best medicine for stress and can even boost the bottom line.
But in the workplace, humor needs to follow best practices. Check out these strategies for the best way to get your funny on in the office:
· Ask your HR department for a class in ha-ha yoga. According to this article, this variation of traditional yoga “blends bold belly laughs and noisy 'meditation' with rhythmic clapping, waddling around like a penguin or taking part in a conga line, and deep yogic breathing.” If doing ha-ha yoga yourself doesn’t make you laugh, watching your coworkers do it probably will.
· Wear a recession T-shirt to work, courtesy of RecessionGear.com (provided you’re not violating the dress code, of course). It will lighten the mood.
· Tell an office-appropriate joke (here are some examples) or play a practical joke. At the same time, keep these tips on reconciling humor with respect in mind.
· Next time you mess something up, find a way to laugh about it and diffuse the tension. These tips can help.
How do you find humor in the workplace, especially in these tough economic times? Leave us a comment below.

I love the t-shirt. The only way to survive this thing and stay sane is to laugh at it all. Every day there are 15 new ridiculous reports. Good work here with the list.

I like idea of having a joke at work, but don't take it too far as they are sacking people at the moment.

Laugh! The only constant is change. If you think today is bad, then you will accept that tommorow can be worse. But practice laughing, today belongs to you, and tomorrow is anything you want to make it. Oh, I just stepped in cat vomit..

All these suggestions are terrific. I especially like the fact that you've focused on finding ways to laugh in this economy. The truth is, people will be more creative if they are allowed to be more relaxed and have a little fun. There's no reason fun and work have to be separate! It's the power the small at work. Allow employees to step outside the serious office structure for a few minutes and you'll see that people can come up with great and unique ideas.
