“Note to Self: Update Resume”

That was Monster’s five-word acceptance speech at the Webbys on Monday night, which turned out to be quite the (Web) star-filled night. You might have heard about Prince’s surprise performance at the end of the evening, or even the Gorillaz’s bizarre (in a good way) puppet act. Then there were the Google folks, a fixture in pretty much everything Web-related nowadays, as well as the My Space guys and Arianna Huffington, who accepted her Webby for best political blog with these words: “Darlings, make blogs, not war.”

There were also a few of those I’m-not-sure-what-his-name-is-but-I-know-he’s-famous types. One guy (not of this category) I was surprised to see there was Harvey Weinstein, a Hollywood godfather of sorts, sitting at a table adjacent to ours. I gave him a Monster Trump doll, which he looked at playfully and then gave back. I was just thankful he wasn’t hit when I spilled my full glass of red wine all over the seat next to me (also unoccupied at the time, thankfully).

But I digress. There were lots of interesting speeches given at the event – although nothing really beat last year’s speech given by Al Gore: “Please don’t recount this vote.”

All in all, it was quite the eventful night. I wonder who will be next year’s headliners…
